Blood-spotted abalone

A blood-spotted abalone, also known locally as the "siffie" or Venus ear, clings to the reef. It's a smaller relative of perlemoen (Haliotis midae) — the abalone species so heavily targeted by poachers along the South African coast — and is not itself the subject of that crisis.
